In conjunction to our previous excursion, the site visit to the plains named Llanos de Juanar, allowed us to understand the huge geological-mining resources of such amazing area. One of the best noted records at that meeting was the own rounded-shape of the plains which forms inner mountain depositions of red soils basically composed of titanium and iron sand grains.

Surroundings the area sacaroidal and dolomitic marbles crop out, as incredible geological scenario.

Titanium ores overlies amphibolites sequences at the core of the plain, which formed red elluvium mainly composed of ilmenite, rutile, hematite, calcite, talc, silicates and limonite.

Ilmenite is an excellent geo-indicator of regional metamorphism temperature close to 600ºC and metamorphic pressure of 4-5kb, identifying amphibolite-hornfels facies.

Titanim is a remarkable element highly appreciated inside sectors as space engineering industry, as it is highly resistant to corrosion prof, and melting point close to 1700ºC. Thus the metal is used in extraordinary low density steel assemblage, as some others industrial applications (paintings, medicine,so on..). The titanium deposit at Llanos de Juanar plains is the most important resource in Malaga province as remarkable in Andalucia region as well.
