Montecorto
Historical mining district carried out to work red iron masses “hematite”, in Triassic dolomites and dolomitic limestone breccia embedded along the contact with the Permian-Triassic “red beds”. Deposit is recovered by Quaternary debris and mantles of dejection. Late hydrothermal phase formed fluorite and copper sulphides related to volcanic rocks outcrops.
Close to the site, ancient iron foundries (Las Alcaurias) were settled where XVIII century industrial activity can be observed.
Source: Stratiform, massive lenses of very pure red hematite.
